The Dean's List - Shaq? A Phoenix Sun?
by Dean

After spending the past 5 years living in Phoenix, AZ, I've grown to love many things the area has to offer.

*Desert Landscaping
*Mexican Food
*Mountain Climbing
*But most of all - THE PHOENIX SUNS!

I've always been a huge basketball fan, but being from Rochester that didn't have a team, I really never routed for any team - I would follow players with the exception of the Bulls in their hey-day.

Living in a Major League city can be magical at times. Everywhere you go on game day, you see people dressed in purple and orange and wearing their favorite players jersey's. If you didn't have tickets to go to the game, you could hear cheers coming out of the houses on your block screaming the names - Go Nash! - Go Stat! - Go Matrix!

Well we won't be screaming "Go Matrix" anymore. Shawn Marion (aka "The Matrix") was traded to the Miami Heat yesterday in a move I will never begin to understand.

The Phoenix Suns acquired four-time NBA Champion Shaquille O'Neal from the Miami Heat in exchange for forward Shawn Marion and guard Marcus Banks, pending completion of physical examinations by both teams.

"We're thrilled to add a player and person of Shaquille's quality to our roster," President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Steve Kerr said. "We believe this addition strengthens our team. We thank Shawn and Marcus for their contributions to our team. Shawn in particular has been a tremendous player for this organization the past eight-and-a-half years and his impact both on and off the court in Phoenix will not be forgotten."

"What the hell were they thinking?" Shaq? I would understand if they had acquired him 5 years ago, but now? He's been on the bench healing one of his many injuries of late. After he got off the private plane the Suns sent for him, he went directly for the MRI Lab.

This will be real interesting to watch. The main rivalry in Phoenix is with the Lakers. Suns fan hate the Lakers and especially Kobe. I must say that I can't wait to see the first game between the two with the addition of Shaq (that is if he isn't injured at the time).

I'll miss Shawn Marion. He is a great player, humble man and a wonderful humanitarian. I wish him well in Miami. The combo of Shawn and Dwayne Wade should be fun to watch. Marcus Banks may even see a little playing time in Miami.
