Hollywood socialite Nicole Richie and pop singer Christina Aguilera have both given birth in the same Los Angeles hospital ward on the same day, according to news reports.
Richie, 26, and her rocker boyfriend, Joel Madden, lead singer of the band Good Charlotte, are the parents of a daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, according to People magazine.
Nicole Richie, seen here in July, announced the birth of a daughter Friday, but mum's the word on Christina Aguilera's new baby.
Richie, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, was a tabloid staple for several years, making headlines party-hopping, co-starring in a reality TV series with celebutante Paris Hilton and fending off criticism of her skeletal figure.
She has spent the past few years repairing that reputation, taking a lower profile and claiming to be living a healthier lifestyle.
Meanwhile, in the same ward of Cedars-Sinai hospital, Aguilera, 27, reportedly gave birth Friday afternoon, but details are sketchy.
E! Online reported that the couple text-messaged friends and family late in the afternoon on Friday: "Baby has arrived. Mom and dad are doing well!"
There were no other details about the baby's name or gender.
The five-time Grammy Award winner and her husband, Jordan Bratman, kept the pregnancy under wraps for months even as paparazzi snapped shots of Aguilera with a bulging belly.
Reports say gifts at Aguilera's three baby showers in November were blue in colour - hinting that the baby is a boy.
The singer and Bratman, a music executive, tied the knot in 2005.
