John Legend Speaks On Kanye And MiJack

After a difficult holiday season dealing with the death of his mother, Donda, Kanye West is back at work and healing, according to collaborator and friend John Legend. The smokin' R&B star, currently on hand in Washington D.C. for the BET Honors, caught up with PageSix.com regarding West, music and more.

"You can't even imagine how tough it would be, especially during the holidays," Legend said of Kanye's recent weeks.

"I was with him at the funeral and met with him in the studio in December...I think once he gets back to work he'll get back in the groove of things. You never completely recover, but he's strong and I know he'll be fine," said Legend.

West will appear and produces on a forthcoming studio album from Legend, which boasts an impressive roster of guests such as Pharrell Williams, Andre 3000 and Wyclef Jean. Legend himself isn't unfamiliar with playing producer?he's assisted on tracks for the likes of Lauryn Hill and Michael Jackson.

"That rumor had a lot of legs," Legend said of his work with Jacko, "I wrote one song for him. I dont know if he's going to use it, I don't know when the album's coming," Legend said of the elusive MJ comeback project.

Legend is currently anticipating the release of his first live recording, John Legend: Live from Philadelphia, released exclusively in Target stores this Tuesday.

"They make a big effort to promote music at the store," Legend said of collaborating with the bullseye, "that's how they get you, they use music to bring you in the store and then you buy a bunch of other stuff."

Aside from Target splurging, Legend is looking forward to his live and studio albums, as well as subsequent touring.

"I think people like the way I perform, live anyway. It's definitely fresh."
