West Indians Shine At AMA's

Jamaicans, and the entire Caribbean, were center stage at the 35th annual American Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The high point of the night from a Caribbean perspective was definitely when Jamaican superstar, Beenie Man hit the stage to a huge roar as he did a cameo on Alicia Keys' R & B chart burner No One.

Another Jamaican legend, Junior 'One Blood' Reid also got a huge welcome from the fans, reggae icons Chaka Demus & Pliers where also present on stage furthering the representation of the Caribbean. The cameras also picked up African sensation Akon and Bajan songstress Rihanna rocking in their seats as they seemed to definitely appreciate the authentic Caribbean flavour which was added to Keys' performance making it the most colourful one of the night.

During her acceptance speech, Barbadian born Rihanna, who beat out Beyonce for the soul/R & B award, made special reference to Alicia Keys' performance alongside Beenie Man, Junior Reid and Chaka Demus & Pliers which she said she could "appreciate."

Meanwhile earlier on the red carpet, Jamaican-born singer Sean Kingston, whose uncles are Buju Banton and Ocho Rios producer Jack Ruby, expressed condolences to Kanye West. He said, "I know he loved his mom, and I'm a mama's boy, too, so I feel it. My heart goes out to him."

Sean Kingston, whose 'Beautiful Girl' Billboard chart topper ruled the airwaves this Summer, was a presenter at this year's show.
