Over the last few weeks, The Dean's List has been attending meetings, watching news reports, listening to talk radio and reading newspapers. The main topic of interest for me is the state of Rochester and the violence issue.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel we are in big trouble! Not because of the violence, but by the folks that have made it their personal responsibility to use the violence to create more issues among each other or to feed their own personal agenda's. There is just as much fighting among the good guys as there is out there on the streets. Let me explain:
Do you really think that the Rochester City Police Department, knowing that they are under the micro-scope with the Zero Tolerance Policy, would purposely do anything that would draw any more attention to themselves? The idea that they are not doing everything they can do to solve the murder of Latasha Shaw is ludicrous!!! Knowing that their asses are on the line on this particular murder, I'm sure they are doing everything they can do to solve this case. It might not be happening in the timeframe we want it to happen, but instead of accusing them of not doing their jobs, why don't we support them and let them do their jobs. Maybe they have identified suspects, but want to make sure they dot all of their "I"'s and cross all of their "T"'s to ensure the case sticks in court.
We knew the Zero Tolerance policy would be a little uncomfortable to some. "THAT'"S WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO!!" Stop complaining and get over it! If you are following the law, you really have nothing to worry about. If you are pulled over and you haven't broken any laws, show some respect, answer any questions and go on about your business. Simple!
Now mind you, I'm not living in an unreal world. I know there are corrupt police officer's out there. I do feel that it is the exception and not the rule. If you have been truly mistreated by any RPD Officer, contact Chief Moore and report it. If you are pissed off because an officer stopped you because he saw you talking on your cell phone, but you told him you were using your speaker phone, and didn't have it up to your ear, so he didn't have to stop you - he only stopped you because you were black. Grow the hell up and DON'T CALL THE CHIEF!!!
Our police force needs your help, support and understanding. Stop complaining and join forces with the police department. They don't need any additional issues. They definitely don't need any back seat police officers or vigilante's to assist them in the process.
Let's get it together Rochester. We may disagree with how it should be done, but we all agree - the violence must stop - take a look at this past weekend. Three more people lost their lives.
