Trinidadian Soca artiste Machel Montano and Patrice Roberts will be among the recipients at the 2008 Barbados Music Awards next January. Rihanna, Edwin Yearwood, Mr Dale, Li'l Rick and Alison Hinds and more are among the nominees for the 2008 Barbados Music Awards (BMA) scheduled for January 2008 in the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium in Barbados.
The 32 categories for awards include Entertainer Of The Year: Male and Female, Album Of The Year, Jazz Album Of The Year, Best New Artiste and Song Of The Year. Not only music stars will walk away with the coveted trophies, one member of the public will win a BMW 116i in a raffle.
Former broadcaster with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation Vic Brewster, and chair of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, Starcom Network's chief executive officer, Vic Fernandes, will be honoured with Living Legend Awards. Lifetime Achievement Awards will go to the two top technical people in the industry, Dorsie Boyce and Norman Barrow, while an Award of Merit will go posthumously to Cheryl Hackett.
The 2008 Cornerstone awardees are David Burnett, Tony Poser Grazette, Mike Grosvenor, Mark Lorde, Tamara Marshall, Sach Moore, Doris Provencal, John Roett, The Troubadours, Derek Wilkie, Andy Williams, and Andre Woodvine.
Entertainers slated to preform at the show include 2007 Calypso Monarch Red Plastic Bag, Hal Linton, The Mighty Gabby, Joseph Niles and John King.
