Patti LaBelle is scheduled to be in Barbados at the end of the month for a benefit dinner and fun run, all in the name of cancer.
The two-time Grammy Award-winning American songstress will join Barbadians on Independence night (November 30) at The Gap Midnight Fun Mile in St Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, where she is scheduled to cut the ribbon to start the charity race. The race is partly in aid of the Barbados Cancer Society's hospital outpatient transport service, which costs $40 000 to maintain.
On December 1, LaBelle, will be the guest of honour at a dinner to launch the Caribbean International Film Festival at Hilton Barbados. There, she will introduce and comment on the Emmy-nominated film Why I Wore Lipstick To My Mastectomy, in which she has a small role.
LaBelle's visit has been facilitated by the Silent Majority Breast Cancer Foundation based in California and the Barbados Tourism Authority. Cancer Society president Dorothy Cooke-Johnson said it was a joy to welcome to Barbados the versatile LaBelle, who has performed twice at the Barbados Jazz Festival (1997 and 2003).
