The 15th edition of the Barbados Jazz Festival will kick off on January 14, 2008, and for the first time patrons will enjoy a night concert in the beautiful surroundings of Farley Hill National Park.
Erykah Badu, who will be appearing here for the first time, will be the featured artiste on that night, January 18, with her prefomance starting at 8 p.m.
"It is a lovely venue at night and I am willing to take the chance," said festival producer Gilbert Rowe. He added: "I am proud to have created something that has lasted 25 years and I am proud too that there has been the transfer of so much technical knowledge in sound, lighting, and so on. I am happy when I hear people say that we have raised the bar."
Featured artistes for the festival are: Bob James, Erykah Badu, Kenny Garrett, Lee Ritenour, The Rippingtons, John Patitucci, Vanessa Rubin, Terri Lyne Carrington, The Cuban All Star Jazz Band, David Ziggy Walcott, Stefan Walcott, The Almond Band and Andre Forde.
Rowe described the 2008 line-up as "almost 100 per cent jazz". "That is what the market is clamouring for," he said, "They are all strong artistes and this is a world-class roster," he added.
Over its 14 years so far, the festival has brought some of the world's leading artistes to perform in Barbados. The list includes such stellar performers as Ray Charles, Ramsey Lewis, Luther Vandross, Grover Washington, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick and Stanley Clarke.
