The government should pay for it. That's really all I wanted to say. Germany, Iceland, The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, and several other countries that I am sure I am forgetting offer free college education. The thought is that the more educated the public is, the better the economy is, and the more thriving the nation is in coming years. I am not talking scholarships here, people! I am talking 100% FREE, GOVERNMENT-FUNDED EDUCATION. THEN THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE NOT TO GO TO COLLEGE. MONEY IS NO LONGER A PROBLEM!
OK -- so nothing in the world is completely FREE. Money is a 'problem' in that your taxes will go up, but if you are getting an education and getting a better job, that means you are getting more money, in a better economy and hopefully won't feel the pinch as much.
There are just some things I think we all, as citizens, should be entitled to. Health is another. Check out Canada! I think about running across the border about a half-dozen times a week. LOL!
Don't get me wrong: The U.S. is a great country. I mean, honestly: how many people (Canadians included) are trying to get over here? I am the daughter of an immigrant! I understand the attraction to living here. But -- IT CAN BE BETTER. There is nothing wrong with looking at other countries and adopting practices that worked for them. I think too often we hold this high and mighty attitude that we are the BEST people in the world, and it is that elitist attitude that is going to be our ruin.
It's like the popular jock in high school and college who goes to the pros and breaks his leg -- not during a game -- but by doing cartwheels on a trampoline DURING season blind-folded with his hands tied behind him! You can have it have it ALL and do something STUPID or ILL-ADVISED or COCKY, thinking you are invinsible when you really aren't and LOSE IT ALL. DUMMY! I don't want us to be DUMMIES!
Anyway... I digress: the moral of the story is that education should be FREE. Not just because I am pissed about having to payback student loans (although that is part of it! LOL!), but because it should be an investment in our nation's FUTURE greatness... 'cause THIS can't be all it is! Our people and our soldiers have worked to hard for this to be it.
