While campaigning for her husband in Iowa Tuesday, the van driving Michelle Obama crashed with a motorcycle, totaling the campaign van and hospitalizing the motorcyclist.

"The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital, and Barack and Michelle's thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time, " Obama Iowa spokesman Tommy Vietor says.

The campaign has suspended the rest of Mrs. Obama's activities for the remainder of the day.

Barack Obama spoke to his wife earlier this evening before an event in Plymouth, New Hampshire, his campaign said. He began his town hall 20 minutes late but was upbeat and did not mention the accident.
