Republican Presidential Debate - Remember These Names!
There were four no-shows at last night's debate moderated by Tavis Smiley: Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Sen. Fred Thompson, Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. All stated that they had scheduling conflicts and could not attend the debate at historically black Morgan State University.
"Fortunately, there are those in the Republican Party who do understand the importance of reaching out to people of color," said talk show host Tavis Smiley, the debate moderator, thanking the six other candidates for participating.
What does this say about these candidates? Are they interested in what you think or the issues you are having? It seems to me that they don't care. If they did, they would have made a point to clear their schedules to attend this very important event. They know about these debates well in advance and with the exception of Fred Thompson (who entered the race late), they managed to attend all other debates.
Why should you care? There is a possibility that one of these men will make the decisions about what happens for 4 years, beginning in 2009. Do you want someone who is not interested in what you have to say in office for 4 years? Last night, 4 Republican Candidates basically let Black/Brown American's know that they don't care about you!
What can you do? VOTE!!!!!! If you haven't registered to vote, you can register online with the Monroe County Board of Elections at:

Or, you can contact them at (585) 753-1550 to ask for a registration form to be mailed to your home. YOU MUST REGISTER 25 DAYS BEFORE AN ELECTION THAT YOU WANT TO VOTE IN!!!! So, contact them today!
The Dean's List is a little worked up about this issue. I guarantee this won't be the last time I talk about voter registration. It's your right - it's time to step up to the plate and voice your opinion. Let's come out in record numbers this November to prepare for the Presidential Election in 2008. It will be good practice.
