Jagged Edge, "Baby Making Project" (So So Def/Island Urban)
Jagged Edge's latest disc, "Baby Makin' Project," begins with a montage of the group's greatest hits, including "Gotta Be," "He Can't Love You" and "Let's Get Married." The intro is a quick reminder that Jagged Edge does ballads. And they do ballads well.
Songs about making up, breaking up and staying together have always been the group's bread and butter. And now they're serving up an entire album of slow jams, not an uptempo track in the bunch.
"Baby Makin Project" is as sexy and sweet as the title suggests. First single "Put a Little Umph In It" featuring Ashanti, in which the guys sing "I love it when you grind on me," is about as racy as the lyrics gets.
Twins Brian and Brandon Casey, with their soft, mellow tones, handle most of the group's singing duties. They beg a lost love to return home on "Whole Town Laughing," refuse to let go of a rocky relationship on "I'll be Damned" and send a reminder to a lover about whose been by her side on "Me That's Who."
The guys aren't doing anything musically they haven't already done in the past. That includes working with producer Jermaine Dupri. But fans of Jagged Edge's classics will be happy to hear more of the stuff they've always loved.
CHECK OUT THIS TRACK: "Can't Get Right" includes the usual sweet stuff ? "Sometimes I'm almost sorry that I found you (and it's only because) because I can't get no peace when I'm not around you." The flute sound in the background is pretty awesome too.
