A community cookout being held on the grounds of School No. 17 today will get a helping hand from students from Jefferson High School.
The event, open to the School No. 17 neighborhood, will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22. The school is located at 158 Orchard Street.
In addition to free hot dogs, the event will include entertainment, games, and activities. It is intended to bring the neighborhood together and allow neighbors and school families to get to know one another.
Participating will be students from Jefferson High School's Entrepreneurship Program, a partnership with the University of Rochester. The program focuses on entrepreneurship and its principles and provides college preparatory experiences for students, including activities on the university campus.
On Saturday, the Jefferson seventh and eighth graders will coordinate children's activities, do face painting, and help serve food. They will also create and present a "Wall of Life" presentation that pays tribute to School No. 17 students and their families through a multimedia display. The presentation is designed to inspire the children to believe in themselves and make positive choices.
