ABC News is confirming that tests conducted by Julian Bailes of the Sports Legacy Institute show that Chris Benoit's brain was severely damaged at the time he murdered his wife and son before taking his own life. According to the tests his brain resembled that of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient. Bailes said that the damage was the result of lifetime chronic concussions and head trauma.
Chris Benoit was famous for his flying headbutt, which is a lot of stress on the brain each time the maneuver is pulled off. While nothing can justify his actions, this may provide some clues and aid with the coping process.
Now Benoit will NEVER win an outstanding parent award, but this gives a little bit of insight to a terrible situation. His mind was in shambles!!! Im a wrestling fanatic who has to defend my love of it constantly, but no matter the sport or activity, one needs a sound mind in conjunction with a sound body.
Theres no telling if Benoit were alive, that he would not have committed an even more DEVASTATING action. Imagine if his actions were inside of the ring in which he performed!!!!
As catastrophic as this murder/ suicide was, at least we have a little bit of knowledge on Benoit's state of mind. I apologize for anyone who feels touchy on the Benoit subject, but I honestly feel empathy for his brain ailment. I also think his finishing move (headbutt off the top rope) played a HUGE role in the decaying of his brain.
Maybe now I will let Lil' B.I.R.D watch sum of Benoit's old wrestling DVDs..... Dont know yet....
