Damn, Not Michael Vick! The Atlanta Falcons quarterback will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. What!!!!!!!!!!!!!Lawyers? Why can't they just say dumb ass Dogfighting! VICK! NOOOOOOOOOOO! That's what took down the quarterback that 75% of NFL Defences couldn't stop. Dogfighting! The Madden Cover Quarterback and Nike Football Commercial star has been sacked! And for what? Looking for a thrill outside of football, gambling on dogfights or the good old fashion "Keeping It Real"! Did we not see the Dave Chappelle Skit "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong"! How could we have missed it, the DVD's sold millions. (It's clear the game still needs him........................him meaning Chappelle)
Now, what do we do? The First Black Quarterback Drafted 1# overall in the NFL could be going to Federal Prison for up to 18 months. Were do you fall on this one. My first thought was, this must be someone he knows and just wanted to helped. You know, buy a house for them and then they decide to run this operation with his name on the mortgage. Maybe, he didn't know!....... Hey, MAYBE!....... Or, maybe he did know and was trying clean up his act after the Adventures of Ron Mexico Story and Water Bottle Compartment Gate! (Just google the stories you'll see what I'm talking about) Or, Maybe he just DID. Damn. Say it ain't so!
So, now where do we go? We teach! We talk to our kids and let them know the score. Not just that Dogfighting is wrong on all levels but that this is how the machine works. And, I quote Peter Parker (aka Spider-man) "With great power comes great responsibility" We all make mistakes, we all make bad decisions, But we all must live with them. So teach.......
1- Right from wrong!
2- How sometimes the media is just looking to take the biggest guy down, all in the name of ratings.
3- That there is such a thing as due process.
4- To choose friends and family members you hang out with wisely.
5- And, that if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, then well you know the rest.
Maybe, Charlie Barkley was right. Athletes shouldn't be role models. Parents should be role models. Hell, Mom or Dad may not be able to throw a football 60 yards off their back foot but then again the they paid the R.G.& E bill so that you could see it on TV. They may not be able to scramble 40 yards for the games winning touchdown. But, they'll hide the scars they got from scrambling for that hard to find Video Game Console of the moment during Christmas. And have seen a parents face when they have pay for back to school apparel. Ouch! Now, that is sacrificing for the team! I'll stop preaching, but that scream that you just heard was the a parent yelling "Speak the Truth Brother!"
So, if your picking for your Fantasy Football team I would leave Micheal Vick off your board for about 2 years. But just remember America does love a good come back story. But, for your more important Fantasy Hero Team pick Mom or Dad with the 1st Pick. And, with your 2nd pick take Obama. I've got a good feeling this season!
