Know What You're Saying or Keep Our Name Out Your Mouth
by Liz

It's sad to me when people speak about things they know little about, but dangerous when they have the power to influence the masses.
Here I am this morning, preparing for the morning show, amped for MusicFest this weekend, when I see the newspaper has an article about it on the front page.
Excited, I pick it up only to be disheartened by the very first line in which the 13th Annual Music Fest is described as "sagging." Immediately, I know where this article is headed.
The article makes it seem as if we had no idea what we were doing with the fest last year, saying that it was "filled with problems that included general disorganization, with performers who couldn't be located when they were supposed to be onstage."
That is inaccurate information (source please?!) and if the reporter had been backstage instead of in the press box, he would know.
He was referring to Busta Rhymes, who was in the locker room area and needed more time to address a personal issue before heading onto the stage. It was last minute and could not be avoided. We knew where he was, why there was a delay, and what the status of resolving that delay was. Once it was resolved, he went on and the show began. End of story.
The second point of discrepancy? A statement saying last year's fest featured "a precipitous drop in talent." Excuse me? Just because the reporter was not familiar with the artists or the genres of music, doesn't mean it was "drop in talent." Is it our fault the music critic doesn't know all music? I think not. We had Busta, Heather Headley, Charlie Wilson, and Avant just to name a few. Moreover, DKX has a history of bringing artists to town BEFORE they blow up! Remember Alicia Keys? Yeah -- we had her here a year or two before he had probably even heard her name.
This year is even better. We've brought in acts that cater to all true R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Funk, and Jazz fans. I am sure the reporter who wrote the article as never heard of artists like Chrisette Michele -- probably thinks she's an example of 'a precipitous drop in talent' like last year. But next year around this time, he will know her name and know that he was late. DKX is always on time.
