Joe Jackson Wants An Allowance From MJ's Estate

Michael Jackson's father is seeking an allowance from his son's estate to help cover expenses that exceed $15,000 a month, according to court documents filed Friday. The request seeking an unspecified amount for Joe Jackson was filed by lawyer Brian Oxman, who said there was no apparent reason for the administrators of the estate to not seek an allowance for the Jackson family patriarch.

Michael Jackson's 2002 will, however, omitted any mention of his father. The two had an often-strained relationship, and Michael Jackson said at one point that he would get physically sick - as a child and as an adult - at the sight of his father.

The singer's private trust calls for money to be paid to his mother, Katherine, his three young children, and various charities.

A judge has approved more than $26,000 in payments to Katherine Jackson each month, and a $60,000 monthly payment for the care of the children.

The latest court documents said Joe Jackson receives a $1,700 monthly Social Security payment and had relied on his son for support for many years.

"He does not have a regular or steady source of income, and he was dependent upon the money provided by his son, Michael Jackson, through his wife, Katherine Jackson, for his support," the filing stated.

"It was quite surprising to learn of the request," Howard Weitzman, an attorney for the administrators of Jackson's estate, said in a statement. "Mr. Jackson's petition will be considered as are all requests for money from Michael's estate."

Joe Jackson suffers from diabetes and had a stroke in 1998, the filing stated.

A former steelworker, he managed and trained his children and organized the Jackson 5. He has been married to Katherine Jackson for 50 years, but he lists his home in Las Vegas. She lives at a family home in the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles.

The filings are inconsistent in several places, listing Joe Jackson's age as 80 in one place and 81 in another. A declaration states his monthly expenses exceed $20,000 a month, but an itemized list only includes slightly more than $15,000.

That list includes $1,200 a month on rent for his Las Vegas home; $2,500 to eat out; $1,000 on entertainment, gifts and vacations; $2,000 on air travel and $3,000 on hotels.

Shirley Hanna, Executive Director of Nice Time Productions said the Award was presented on Wednesday, November 4 to producer Fernando Garcia and director Miguel Galofre, who attended the Festival in person and received the gold award. The Garland of Honour is one of three special categories of Festival awards. The Excellence Award was won by the official film of Olympic Games of Beijing "The Everlasting Flame: Beijing Olympics 2008" produced by CCTV - China Central Television - China and presented to the director of the film Gu Jun and to the General manager of the CCTV Dr. Guo Benming.

WHY DO JAMAICANS RUN SO FAST features footage of all the six Beijing Olympic Gold medal victories, as well as interviews with the medal winners at home in Jamaica, features of the communities in which they live and comments from leading Jamaicans. The film received applause and acclaim when it was premiered in February 2009 at the CPTC as part of the scaled-down Reggae Film Festival, and it was later selected as the opening night feature of the Kingston On The Edge arts week. School administrators have joined those expressing dismay at the growing feud among the student population over support for rival dance hall artistes Mavado and Vybz Kartel.

The rivalry has pitted Mavado's Gully supporters against Vybz Kartel's fans who describe themselves as Gaza.

According to Ruel Reid, Principal of Jamaica College, this has created a serious problem in schools and the matter must be urgently addressed before it gets out of hand.

"We don't have to bring it to this level... we have this thing out there about sounds and artistes clashing, always some confrontation. As a society, we've got to move away from that and if the artistes are projecting positive images, it must not lead to division."

Meanwhile, Guidance Counsellor Lameta Lugg said major players in the music industry should take some responsibility for what is happening in the schools.

"I think the music fraternity has to step up, acknowledge that that there is a problem, there is an issue with the music that the children are listening to. In my opinion, it is demoralising ... it is the same music that will be pulling us down and the music fraternity needs to step up and do something."

Rihanna on Friday described the horror she felt as her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was biting and punching her during a violent argument in February, saying she saw "no soul in his eyes."

"There was no person when I looked at him," the 21-year-old singer recalled during the second installment of an interview airing on ABC's "Good Morning America." "He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank."

Brown was arrested Feb. 8, hours after he was accused of beating Rihanna after the two argued over another woman. He later pleaded guilty to felony assault.

In the interview, Rihanna, who is no longer with Brown, described him as "definitely my first big love." She said their relationship was intense.

"The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other - equally as dangerous," she said. "It was a bit of an obsession almost."

The attack occurred in Los Angeles' Hancock Park neighborhood as Brown drove a rented sports car. She said it was triggered when she saw a text message on his phone from another woman and confronted him about it. She said he lied about it and "I wouldn't drop it."

A search warrant affidavit filed in the case stated that Brown hit, choked and bit Rihanna and tried at one point to push her from the car.

"It was ugly," she said.

During the beating, the singer said she had no idea how it would end: "That's all I kept thinking the whole time, 'When is it going to stop? When is it going to stop?'"

Brown was sentenced to five years' probation, six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling after he pleaded guilty to felony assault.

In portions of the interview aired Thursday, Rihanna warned other women facing domestic violence to not let themselves become blinded by love. She also said she regretted going back to Brown, saying it sent the wrong message to her fans.

Brown, 20, has apologized to fans and has said he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna for the attack. Brown will recount his perspective in an interview to air Friday on MTV.

Despite the beating, Rihanna said she still cares about Brown.

"I don't hate him at all," she said. "I actually love and care about him and I'm concerned about him doing well. I want him to do well - have a great career, have a great life, and grow up. Just take this as something that you had to go through to grow up and learn."

Rihanna's interview coincides with the debut of her new single, "Russian Roulette," from her upcoming album, "Rated R." More of the ABC interview will be included in Friday evening's news magazine "20/20."

During her interview with "Larry King Live" on Wednesday, Mariah Carey revealed a disturbing past relationship where she suffered from both emotional and mental abuse.

Although she didn't reveal who her abuser was, some speculate it to be ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, because she has previously expressed her feelings that he was controlling and restrictive.

Speaking with King, Carey broke down the abuse saying, " For me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing, where the person was in control of my life." She was also asked her take on the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation to which she responded that she was sympathetic towards RiRi and "can't imagine what she went through."

Carey also shot down the rumors that she is pregnant although she said it would be the happiest thing in her life.

Gabrielle Union is opening up about how she was raped when she was just 19 years old.

The actress blogged on Global Grind.com:

"When I was 19 years old, I was raped. I was working at a shoe store in California, and the store was robbed. The person robbing the store ended up putting a gun to my head and raping me. As he was raping me, I felt as though I was floating over myself, thinking, 'This isn't happening.' I blanked out and had an out-of-body experience, like I was hovering above seeing this horrible thing happen to someone else...not me. I was fortunate enough to go the UCLA rape crisis center after this horrific ordeal. It gave me my life back. My dignity and self-esteem were gone and they helped me find them again."

She goes on to say that that's why now she lobbies for state legislatures across the country and the federal government to help raise funds and awareness for rape crisis centers. Union says her goal is to never hear the words 'me too' from someone after I say 'I was raped.'

Wyclef Tells All In His New Book

Wyclef Jean is opening up about the details that he spills inside his untitled tell-all memoir.

According to the Associated Press, the book will cover Jean's life, from his childhood in rural Haiti to his musical career and philanthropic work. 'Clef says that the book will make a statement for his fellow Haitians and promises that he will travel back to memory lane with stories about The Fugees.

He released a statement saying, "Coming from where I came from and being one of the only Haitian entertainers to make it where I've made it to, I think when people read the memoir they will better learn the story."

Wyclef also revealed that it will be followed by several books. No release date has been announced.

Chris Brown Talks To MTV Today

With Rihanna finally sharing her side of the story of her abusive relationship with Chris Brown, his team is working in full overdrive. Brown is going to be giving an exclusive interview to MTV for "Chris Brown: The Interview," airing today at 6PM ET/PT.

During the hour-long special with Sway, Brown tried to explain what caused him to blackout and attack his ex-girlfriend and why he posted pictures of them together after the incident. He tells Sway, "My thoughts [when I look back on it now] is like, why did it happen? Like, what was I thinking? What is wrong with you? That's what I'm thinking with myself. That's what my thoughts are, basically, now." He also says that he's trying to figure out how to move past the situation and turn it from negative to positive.

Yung Joc Released From Bad Boy

Yung Joc has announced that he has been released from contractual obligations from Bad Boy Records and Block Entertainment.

Now that he's a free agent, the rapper says that he's already in talks with other labels and will take what he learned from Diddy's business sense with him. During a recent interview he reveals that in the terms of his release was a defamation clause, barring him from talking too much about the situation.

Joc previously expressed his dissatisfaction with Bad Boy Records after not receiving royalties for his million plus albums sold. He says that Diddy wasn't any help either saying "Diddy said he's got to stay out of it because it's between me and Block Entertainment. I was never signed to Block Entertainment, but they've been interfering with a lot of my business." Joc says he felt like Bad Boy wasn't doing anything to try to intervene.

Beyonce took home three trophies at last night's MTV Europe Music Awards. She received prizes for best female, best song ("Halo") and best video ("Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It") on one of pop music's biggest nights outside the United States. Upon winning for "Single Ladies" Beyonce was quoted as saying, "There is only one person I would like to Thank...and that's Jay for putting a ring on it" Beyonce's husband, hip hop star Jay-Z, was also a winner on the night, topping the best urban act category.

Wearing a black leather jacket and sunglasses, he referred to the theme of the Berlin Wall, saying: "I look forward to the day when all those walls come down." Beyonce took to the stage after her husband's acceptance speech, appearing in a red heart and wearing a scarlet bodice and garters to perform the hit "Sweet Dreams."

Best male act went to rapper Eminem, who thanked his supporters in a video message.

There was also a video tribute to the late king of pop Michael Jackson during the show.

This is not a TYLER PERRY BRANDED MOVIE. I did not write it, I'm not in it, I did not direct it. I want you to know that the language and subject matter are rough.

Some of you may say, "Then Tyler, why are you involved with it?" Glad you asked. It's certainly not for money, because I haven't gotten a dime, nor will I. Anything I make, 100% is going to charity. With that said, it
brings me to my reason for wanting to get the word out about this film. One word - POWERFUL! People think that this does not happen and these people don't exist. Not true! This is the most REAL film I've ever seen on this subject matter.

Seeing it, I realized that I was watching a lot of my childhood played out in front of my eyes, and by the end of the movie I was filled with so many emotions. When I sorted them all out, the one that stood out the most was
Gratitude! I had to thank God that I made it through. I know, for a fact, that if you have been through anything like this, by the end of this film you will have a flood of emotions. I hope you leave feeling the same gratitude I did, thanking God you made it through. For those of you who haven't been through anything like this, I hope that you still have that level of gratitude...being thankful for the parents you were born to, and also that it will make you want to reach out and help some child. There are Preciouses everywhere. One word can make a difference in their lives. Believe me, I know about that one word.

DMX's career as a boxer has ended before it even began, as the rapper has pulled out of an upcoming boxing match, sources have told AllHipHop.com.

DMX was scheduled to square off against New Mexico based fighter Eric Martinez on December 12 in Alabama, during an event sponsored by Thunder Promotions.

One source said DMX pulled out of the fight because his safety could not be guaranteed, while another claimed that the rapper backed out because Thunder Promotions refused his request to "fix" the fight.

Sources stated that Thunder Promotions may pursue legal action against DMX.

In the meantime another, a variety of popular rappers have been contacted to stand up to Eric Martinez during the fight and that a replacement for DMX could be announced as early as next week.

In late October, DMX called into Washington's 106.7 to talk about the bout.

He stated that he had no plans to train for the fight and appeared to take the challenge against Martinez lightly.

"I'm a just walk in as is. It wouldn't be fair if I trained," DMX said and later said: "I ain't trying to have my face all messed up."

Stars Pay Tribute To Otis Redding

Grammy-winning singer Estelle remembered when she used to strut in the living room when she was younger, singing many of soul legend Otis Redding's classic songs like "Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay."

On Thursday night, she had a bigger audience as she and others paid homage to the soul singer in a two-hour performance at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta.

"I'm just trying to do his song justice," said Estelle, who sang "Satisfaction," the Rolling Stones song that Redding covered. "I hope I come close to making the song sound great just like him."

Estelle was joined in honoring Redding by Anthony Hamilton, married couple Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore, and Redding's sons Dexter and Otis III.

"Singing the same songs he used to sing makes me realize how much of an impact he had in music," said Anthony Hamilton, who performed "Try a Little Tenderness" with Dexter and Otis III.

Redding established himself in the early 1960s as a first-rate songwriter, penning and recording "Respect," which Aretha Franklin made a No. 1 hit. His biggest hit, "Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay," was released after his death in a plane crash in December 1967.

"Tonight, his name lives on," said Redding's wife, Zelma. She established the Big "O" Youth Educational Dream Foundation, which also honored NASCAR's Kyle Petty, rapper Ludacris and talent developer Devyne Stephens for their foundation's outreach programs.

"Otis would be so proud of what so many of these people have done in the community," Zelma Redding said.

Rapper Ludacris said he was humbled after meeting and sitting next to Redding's wife, sons and daughter.

"I'm just a fan of Otis Redding," the rapper said. "His legacy will live forever and he has been one of the major influences in who I am. It's as simple as that."

After suffering abuse at the hands of Chris Brown, Rihanna has stern advice for young women who find themselves in similar situations.

In an explosive preview of her forthcoming '20/20' interview set to air Friday, Rihanna tells Diane Sawyer " 'F' love. Come out of the situation and look at it third person and for what it really is and then make your decision because love is so blind".

The explosive advice came moments after Diane Sawyer asked Rihanna about the attack in February and her decision to return to the "I Can Transform Ya" singer.

"I didn't cause this. I didn't do it," Rihanna told Sawyer, addressing months of comments from observers who blamed the singer for 'causing' the incident to happen.

"There are a lot of women who have experienced what I did, but not in the public."

"I fell in love with that person. That's embarrassing (that) that's the person I fell in love with," Rihanna went on to tell Sawyer.

While Rihanna was quick to admit that her relationship with Brown became embarrassing, the "Russian Roulette" star seemed to be overcome with emotion when addressing a decision to go back to Brown after the attack.

"That's not what I want to teach people (to go back)," Rihanna said in the clip.

"When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some girl getting killed I could not be easy with that part. I couldn't be responsible for them going back again."

"It was a wake up call for me ... big time," she goes to say.

Rihanna's full interview with Diane Sawyer on 20/20 will air Friday, November 6 at 10pm.

Oprah Pulls BeBe Winans From Her Show

BeBe Winans will not appear in forthcoming episodes of 'Oprah' as announced last month.

According to a spokesperson for the Winfrey, the "Close To You" singer will not be allowed to appear on her show until domestic violence charges filed against him are resolved.

Winans, who appeared with his sister CeCe to promote the recently released album "Still", was the subject of an online controversy stemming from Oprah's alleged banning of fellow entertainer Chris Brown.

According to Winans' ex-wife, who he allegedly pushed down during an altercation earlier this year, Oprah was wrong for allowing her husband to appear on her show and not an apologetic Chris Brown.

Speaking with TMZ, Debra Winans said she was "hurt by Oprah's decision to have Bebe on the show".

Oprah's spokesperson says Winans' taped segments, which involved a "karaoke challenge," will not air.

Winans is due in court on misdemeanor domestic assault charges January 20.

Chris Brown Ticket Sales Are Slow

Tickets for Chris Brown's "Fan Appreciation" tour haven't been as brisk as his camp would have liked.

The trek is scheduled to kick off next week and none of the intimate venues "are even close to sold out," according to the New York Daily News. "In fact, anyone who's interested can still purchase up to 50 tickets at a time for Brown's opening night" at the House of Blues in Houston on Nov. 14.

"This is definitely not the outcome [Chris' label] Jive Records hoped for," says an industry exec, adding that the poor ticket sales are surely a result of Brown's now-infamous altercation with Rihanna in February. "Chris lost a lot of fans after he assaulted Rihanna. And after that whole scandal, he's not exactly kid-friendly. What parent would buy their children tickets to his concert?"

Brown's agent, meanwhile, says he's not worried about the sluggish sales. "Dates are expected to sell out," insists the rep, "and given the economic climate, ticket sales are doing very well."

But another industry insider says the tour may be premature, considering Brown's "Graffiti" album doesn't drop until Dec. 8. "Had this tour fallen on the heels of a smash album, compared to his climbing single 'I Can Transform Ya,' ticket counts might have been better," says the source.

That logic may explain why the release of "Graffiti" has been pushed up a week - it was originally slated to drop on Dec. 15, which is the date of his last tour stop at the Nokia Theater in New York.

"This may be Jive's way of boosting Chris' head count for the Manhattan show," says the music insider. "The turnout at Nokia is pretty crucial. If he can get a big crowd in New York City, it'll be a good sign that he can regain control of his career."

Teddy Riley Says MJ Was Murdered

Producer Teddy Riley has given weight to LaToya Jackson's belief that her brother Michael was murdered, after revealing the King of Pop had named potential suspects in the event of his death.

"He mentioned it to me a few times... like people were out to kill him... and he would say names, saying these are the people who are trying to kill me," Riley told the National Enquirer.

As soon as news of Jackson's passing broke, Riley said he immediately called the singer's family to alert them to the possibility he might have been killed.

"I said, 'Listen, he was murdered. Somebody didn't like something Jackson said or something he's doing or didn't want him to go to the top, so they had to get rid of him.' We've got so many people we think it could be. It's going to come out. You're going to find out."

Jackson passed away from a drug overdose on June 25, just days before he was due to launch a concert residency in London. His death has been ruled a homicide and Los Angeles police are focusing their investigation on the superstar's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray.

La Toya has long maintained her younger brother was murdered.
